Amethyst
A purple variety of quartz formed in the cavities of volcanic rock and as veins in granite. The violet color is due to irradiation, iron impurities and the presence of trace elements.
Before large deposits were found in Brazil amethyst was considered one of the five most precious gemstones. Used to decorate English regalia, it was considered a symbol of royalty.
You will receive the piece pictured above. Total length of the pendant piece is 1-1/4 from the crystal point to the top of the wire loop. Total length of the suede necklace is 21 inches including lobster claw clasp.
Tibetans consider amethyst sacred to the Buddha and still use it in prayer.
The Ancient Greeks believed it to be a strong antidote against drunkenness.
In the Middle Ages, European soldiers wore amethyst amulets as protection in battle.
